We ensure a high quality physical education curriculum that inspires all children to succeed in sporting activities and enables them to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to develop competence and excel in a broad range of physical activities including competing in a range of sports, build the attitudes, skills and knowledge that teach children how to cooperate with others as well as understand fairness, respect and equality of play. For many children, memorable experiences are created as part of our school sports teams and successful participation in local league and inter school sports competitions. Our Curriculum Drivers of growth mindset, community, environment and language development shape every aspect of PE, are embedded in teaching and learning and develop the child as a whole.

Children apply and develop a broad range of skills, learning how to use them in different ways. They communicate, collaborate and compete with each other, develop an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities, achieve their personal best and recognise their own success. These skills include running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination, playing competitive games such as basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders and tennis, as well as developing flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance through athletics, gymnastics and dance.

In addition, children in Year 4 are taught to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
